TF-152C Thermal Fuse
What is a thermal fuse?
The TF-152C is a thermal fuse used to cut power to a system when the temperature exceeds the safe operational limit. This standard limit is 152oC (306oF) but other operational limits can be ordered. The photo shows the TF-152C with a sheath to provide electrical insulation.Replacing or specifying a fuse
If you are replacing a thermal fuse from a commercial product first contact the manufacturer and get the specifications and order the fuse from that manufacturer. Otherwise take the thermal fuse assembly apart and use the part number to ascertain its specs. If you are designing your own product use a temperature sensor and a DMM to measure the temperature current consumption under maximum ambient temperature conditions. To this temperature a few degrees of safety margin should be added.Correct installation
The thermal fuse should be installed in contact with the system’s heat sink or cooling coils. If the fuse opens (“blows”) more than once it is likely that the system is malfunctioning and generates more heat than the cooling coils or heat sink can dissipate. This malfunction could be caused by inadequate air flow. For refrigeration units the cooling fluid may need to be re-charged and the leak repaired. In some cases there is a basic design problem and the whole unit should be replaced.Limit temperatures, degrees C | 60 - 280 |
Current rating, amps | 10 |
Max voltage, RMS | 240 |
Overall length | 60 cm (24 inches) |
Normal operating resistance | 0.5 ohms |
Abnormal (blown) resistance | Infinite |
Connections | Right angle plug and bare wire |
Ordering a fuse To order a new or replacement fuse you need to know the cutoff temperature, voltage and current rating as well as connectorization (what is on the wire ends) and wire lengths. In many case it is best to send the fuse assembly to DAQ Systems for repair.
